Wikipedia - CONCACAF Caribbean Cup
The CONCACAF Caribbean Cup is an annual football competition for clubs that are members of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). Beginning with the inaugural tournament in 2023, the new competition will serve as qualification to the CONCACAF Champions Cup for clubs from the region. The tournament is the successor to the Caribbean Club Championship which ran from 1997 to 2022.
The top three clubs from the Caribbean Cup will qualify for the Champions Cup, with the winner entering the round of 16 and second and third-place finishers entering in round one.
History
In September 2021, CONCACAF announced that beginning in 2024, the CONCACAF Champions League would be expanded from 16 to 27 clubs. At that time, it was announced that clubs from the Caribbean sub-region would qualify via the new CONCACAF Caribbean Cup, but specific details were not revealed. Further details were announced in June 2022.
Turnaj sa konal prvýkrát v roku 1989 a odvtedy sa hrá každé dva roky. Zúčastňuje sa ho 31 národných tímov z Karibiku, ktoré sú rozdelené do štyroch skupín. Víťaz každej skupiny postupuje do semifinále a následne do finále.
CFU Caribbean Cup slúži ako kvalifikačný turnaj na Zlatý pohár CONCACAF, ktorý je hlavným medzinárodným futbalovým turnajom Severnej Ameriky, Strednej Ameriky a Karibiku. Víťaz CFU Caribbean Cupu sa kvalifikuje priamo na Zlatý pohár CONCACAF.
Turnaj je dôležitou súčasťou futbalového kalendára v Karibiku a poskytuje platformu pre rozvoj futbalu v regióne. V priebehu rokov sa na turnaji zúčastnilo mnoho talentovaných hráčov, ktorí pokračovali v úspešnej kariére v Európe a inde.
